Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council

Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Council (DIAC) Committee members are interested in deeply, innovatively and proactively advancing the mission of the School and of the Diversity Competencies at HGSE and in education. The DIAC serves as a bridge, partnering with faculty, administrators and student council and organization leaders to ensure an equitable and inclusive campus.

The DIAC representatives are charged with facilitating diversity awareness and discussion in the HGSE community. Membership includes elected student representatives from HGSE program cohorts and affinity organizations, the master’s student member in the Dean’s Advisory Committee on Equity and Diversity, the diversity interns in the Office of Student Affairs, as well as the Associate Dean for Enrollment and Student Services, the Director of Student Affairs, and the Assistant Director for Multicultural and International Affairs.

Originally established as the Multicultural Advisory Council (MAC) to address emerging diversity issues among the student body, the DIAC meets five times per semester to address diversity and campus climate concerns of students.  Members also are asked to work in one of three subcommittees to co-sponsor and collaborate on co-curricular programming regarding diversity, equity and inclusion (such as the Diversity Dialogues series and the Social Justice Workshops), to collaborate on diversity initiatives with Student Council, and to review the Dean’s Diversity Innovation Fund proposals, deciding on funding allocations for student initiatives on diversity.

Council members are expected to:

  • Attend all meetings of the Council, held five times each semester during HGSE community hours (Meeting dates are October 5, October 19, November 2, November 16 and December 7)
  • Participate in the planning, organizing and publicity of diversity initiatives;
  • Actively participate in advancing the goals of at least one event or focus area (subcommittee);
  • Advise the Office of Student Affairs on emerging concerns regarding diversity;
  • Facilitate coordination and collaboration between student groups;
